Convert AVIF to PDF, free, without uploading

AVIF is the small, sharp picture format newer phones, cameras and websites save. Drop one or many AVIF pictures and get a PDF with a page for each, in the order you choose. Your browser decodes them in this tab, so nothing is uploaded, and there is no limit on how many.

How AVIF becomes a PDF here

  1. Drop the AVIF pictures. Drop, choose or paste them, or a whole folder. Put them in order with Up and Down.
  2. Your browser decodes them. AVIF needs a decoder; the one built into your browser reads each picture in this tab. A current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari has it.
  3. Make the PDF. Each picture goes on its own page, a photo as a JPEG at quality 90 and a graphic without loss, then the PDF is checked and handed to you.

What it does

  • Stores a photo as a JPEG at quality 90, so the PDF stays close to the pictures' size; a graphic with few colours or see-through parts keeps every pixel.
  • Keeps see-through parts as transparency.
  • Takes many pictures at once, in the order you set.
  • Mixes AVIF with every other picture format the tool reads.

What it does not do

  • A PDF cannot hold AVIF as it is, so a photo is written as a JPEG at quality 90 and a graphic losslessly; either way the PDF is somewhat larger than the AVIF, which is one of the most compact formats there is.
  • An animated AVIF becomes one page: its first frame.
  • A browser without an AVIF decoder cannot read the file, and the page says so; a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari can.

Questions

Why is my PDF bigger than the AVIF?

AVIF is one of the most compact picture formats there is, and PDF cannot store it as it is. A photo goes in as a JPEG at quality 90, which takes somewhat more room than the AVIF; a graphic goes in without loss. Compress PDF brings it down to the size you need and shows the size before and after.

Can I combine AVIF with other pictures?

Yes. Drop AVIF, JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, GIF and BMP pictures together; each becomes a page in the order of the list.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in a current mobile browser. Open this page, choose the pictures, and download the PDF.

Does my file leave my computer?

No. Your browser decodes the AVIF and builds the PDF in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.
