Convert PDF to Word, free, without uploading it
Get the text of a PDF into Word, ready to edit: headings as Word headings, paragraphs joined, bulleted lists as real lists, numbered clauses with their numbers as printed, tables as Word tables, pictures where they were. To be clear before you start: this rebuilds the content, not a copy of the layout, so columns, exact positions and fonts are not kept. Nothing is uploaded.

How PDF to Word works here
- Drop the PDF. It opens in a worker in your tab. The engine Chrome uses to show PDFs reads every line with its size, weight and place on the page.
- Convert. Larger text becomes headings, lines close together become paragraphs, bullets become lists, rows of aligned cells become tables, and pictures go in where they sit.
- Edit in Word. Open the .docx in Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice. The text flows, so it can be edited, restyled and reused.
What it does
- Gives you text you can edit, not text boxes stuck in place.
- Uses Word's own heading and list styles, so a table of contents and the navigation pane work.
- Keeps the reading order of single-column documents such as letters, reports, contracts and CVs.
What it does not do
- It does not copy the layout: columns side by side, text placed at exact positions, fonts and colours are not kept.
- Magazine and brochure layouts with several columns can come out in an odd order.
- Complex tables with merged cells can come out split.
- It does not read scanned PDFs as text: their pages come out as pictures; run OCR PDF first.
Questions
Will it look exactly like the PDF?
No, and the page says so up front. It rebuilds the content (headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, pictures) so you can edit it. Tools that copy the exact look put every line in its own text box, which is hard to edit.
Which PDFs convert best?
Documents with one column of text: letters, reports, contracts, CVs, manuals. Multi-column layouts and complex tables need more checking.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
Run OCR PDF on it first to give it real text, then convert that file. Without OCR, each scanned page comes out as a picture.
Is my document uploaded?
No. It is read and the Word file is written in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded.
