How PNG to PDF works here

  1. Drop the pictures. PNG, or any mix with JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP. Put them in order with Up and Down.
  2. Pick the page. Paper, orientation, margin, and whether the picture fits inside the page or fills it. Choose whether see-through parts stay see-through.
  3. Download. Each PNG is decoded and stored losslessly with row filtering and deflate, which is the same compression PNG itself uses. The result is checked by re-opening it.

What it does

  • Keeps every pixel: a screenshot stays sharp.
  • Keeps transparency as a PDF soft mask, which every viewer honours.
  • Reads grey, RGB, palette and 16-bit PNGs.
  • Uses the picture's resolution for 'same as the picture' when the file carries one.

What it does not do

  • It does not shrink the picture; a 4000 pixel screenshot stays 4000 pixels.
  • An interlaced PNG is decoded by your browser rather than here; the result is the same.
  • A HEIC photo is written as a JPEG at quality 90, since PDF has no HEIC.

Questions

Is anything lost?

No. PNG is lossless and so is the way the picture is stored in the PDF.

What happens to transparent parts?

They stay transparent, as a soft mask, and the page's white shows through. Switch Transparency to flattened to bake them onto white.

Why is the PDF about the size of the PNG?

Because it holds the same pixels with the same compression. A lossless file cannot be much smaller without becoming a different picture.

Do my pictures leave my computer?

No. Everything runs in your browser tab. The only network requests are the site's own files.
