Convert PDF to Markdown, free, without uploading it

Headings, paragraphs and lists come out as clean Markdown, with running headers, footers and page numbers left out and words broken across lines joined again. Good for notes apps, documentation, and for giving a document to an AI assistant without uploading the PDF anywhere. Nothing is uploaded.

How the structure is found

  1. Drop the PDF. It opens in a worker in your tab.
  2. Convert. Each line's size, weight and position on the page are read. Lines larger than the body text become headings, lines close together become paragraphs, bullets and numbers become lists.
  3. Download the .md. Check the structure, then use it in your notes, your docs, or paste it into an assistant.

What it does

  • Uses up to 3 heading levels, from the largest text down.
  • Joins the lines of a paragraph and words split by a hyphen at a line end.
  • Leaves out lines that repeat at the top or bottom of most pages.
  • Marks short bold lines on their own as bold.

What it does not do

  • It works the structure out from how the text looks, so check it: a large quote may become a heading.
  • Tables come out as lines of text, not Markdown tables.
  • It does not read scanned pages: run OCR PDF first.
  • Pictures are left out.

Questions

Why convert a PDF to Markdown for AI tools?

Assistants read Markdown well, and it is much smaller than a PDF. Converting here means the PDF itself never leaves your device; you choose what text to paste.

Are tables kept?

Not as tables yet: their cells come out as lines of text.

Why are the page numbers gone?

Lines that repeat on most pages, such as running headers, footers and page numbers, are left out. Turn Running lines to kept to have them.

Does my file leave my computer?

No. Everything runs in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded.
