Convert TIFF to PDF, every page, free

TIFF is what scanners, fax services and document archives save, often many pages in one file. Drop a TIFF and every page becomes a page of the PDF, at the size the scanner saw. Black-and-white faxes stay crisp and small. Nothing is uploaded: the file is read in this tab.

How TIFF becomes a PDF here

  1. Drop the TIFF files. One file or many, or a folder of scans. Pick Same as the picture under Paper to keep each page the size it was scanned.
  2. Every page is read. Each page of each TIFF is decoded in this tab, one at a time, so a long fax never fills the memory.
  3. Make the PDF. Pages go into the PDF in order; a black-and-white page is stored at 1 bit, a grey one in grey. The result says how many TIFF pages it read.

What it does

  • Reads every page of a multi-page TIFF.
  • Keeps black-and-white fax pages at 1 bit, about a tenth of the 8-bit size.
  • Keeps grey scans grey.
  • Turns pages the way their orientation tag says.
  • Uses the resolution in the file, so the page is the size the scanner saw.

What it does not do

  • It does not make the scan searchable; run OCR PDF on the result for that.
  • It does not straighten or clean up a scan.
  • A colour photo stored as an uncompressed TIFF stays large in the PDF; Compress PDF brings it down.

Questions

My TIFF has 20 pages. Do I get all of them?

Yes. Every page of the TIFF becomes a page of the PDF, in order, and the result says how many pages it read.

Will a fax stay sharp?

Yes. A black-and-white page is stored at 1 bit, exactly as scanned, which also keeps it small.

Can I search the text afterwards?

Not yet: a scan is a picture. Run OCR PDF on the PDF and it gets an invisible text layer you can search and copy.

Does my file leave my computer?

No. The TIFF is read and the PDF is built in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.
