Convert PDF to Excel, free, without uploading it

Tables from invoices, bank statements, price lists and reports come out as rows and columns in an .xlsx file, with amounts as real numbers you can add up, whether written 1,190.00 or 1.190,00. One sheet per page, or all on one. Nothing is uploaded, which matters for statements.

How tables are found

  1. Drop the PDF. It opens in a worker in your tab. The engine Chrome uses to show PDFs reads every piece of text with where it sits.
  2. Convert. Text on the same line becomes a row, whatever order the file wrote it in. Columns follow the table's lines when it has them, and the gaps between columns when it does not.
  3. Open it in Excel. Amounts are numbers, ready to sum and sort. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice.

What it does

  • Keeps the text around the tables too, so headings and notes stay with them.
  • Reads amounts in English and European styles, negatives in brackets or with a minus after them.
  • Leaves dates, invoice numbers, IDs with leading zeros and long account numbers as text, so they are not changed.

What it does not do

  • It does not read scanned PDFs, which are pictures: run OCR PDF first.
  • Cells that span several columns, and text that wraps onto two lines in one cell, can land in the wrong column or row: check them.
  • It does not keep colours, fonts or cell borders.

Questions

Will my numbers be real numbers in Excel?

Yes. Amounts such as 1,190.00, 1.190,00 or (12.50) become numbers you can add up. Dates and IDs stay as they are written.

My bank statement came out with columns in the wrong place.

Columns are found from where the text sits. Statements whose rows wrap onto two lines are the hardest; check those rows, or convert only the pages you need.

Can I convert a scanned PDF?

Run OCR PDF on it first to give it a text layer, then convert that file. Results from scans are less exact.

Is my statement uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and the spreadsheet is written in your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded.
