Inspect a PDF, free, in your browser
What the file is made of: pages and sizes, fonts and whether they are embedded, images and how much of the file they are, security, forms, metadata, bookmarks. Nothing is changed and nothing is uploaded.

How inspecting works here
- Drop the file. The PDF opens in a worker in your tab.
- Read the facts. The engine walks the pages and lists what it finds: the fonts used on each page and whether they are embedded, every image with its size and format, and the file's own description of itself.
- Act on them. The result says what makes the file large and what might render differently elsewhere, and links to the tool that fixes it. Save the facts as JSON if you need them.
What it does
- Reads pages, sizes, rotation and the PDF version.
- Lists fonts by name, embedded or not, with the number of pages they are on.
- Lists images by format with their pixel size and bytes, and the largest one.
- Reports encryption, the security revision, permissions, form type and annotations.
- Lists digital signatures, scripts (and one set to run on open), launch actions, and attached files by name.
- Shows the document properties and the XMP metadata, the second place a PDF keeps an author's name.
- Tells pages with text from scanned pages.
What it does not do
- It does not check a file against PDF/A or accessibility rules; that is a planned Accessibility check, not here yet.
- It does not validate a digital signature.
- It scans the first 200 pages for fonts and images and counts the rest.
Questions
Why is my PDF so big?
Nearly always the images. The inspection shows how much of the file they are and which one is largest. Compress PDF shrinks them.
What does 'not embedded' mean?
The file names a font but does not carry it, so each device draws the text with whatever it has. Embedded fonts look the same everywhere.
What is a scanned page?
A page that is one picture and no text. It cannot be searched until OCR adds a text layer, which is what OCR PDF does.
Does my file leave my computer?
No. Everything runs in your browser tab. The only network requests are the site's own files.
